HDBW PROFESSORS AND EXTERNAL LECTURERS
The appointed chairholders at a university of applied sciences, such as HDBW, must have completed a doctorate. In addition, at least 5 years of professional experience outside a university or college is mandatory. This was already a prerequisite for teaching authorisation in the early days of this form of higher education in Germany, which was then still know as a 'Fachhochschule'.
This ensures that students not only receive excellent didactic and methodical instruction in theoretical knowledge, but also that the theoretical content of the course is also meaningfully linked to practical examples provided by the professors, with their substancial real-world experience.
Due to the small learning groups at the HDBW, the professors are always available to support the students. They can respond to individual questions, have time for discussions or coach students during group work and presentations.
Also, they are happy to help with career orientation to facilitate entry into the right industry and position after graduation.

Lecturers from corporate practice
In addition to the permanently appointed professors, every university or college employs external lecturers for individual courses. Some of them work at the institution for several semesters, while others only teach a seminar or a block course in their subject area in one semester.
Some of the external lecturers also teach at other universities or colleges, while others hold corresponding positions in a company. What they all have in common is that they are experts in their field, are equipped with corporate practice and are happy to pass on their knowledge to students eager to learn.

Directly integrated into the course of studies or through the elective Bachelor's courses in StudiumPlus, the HDBW also offers the teaching of foreign languages.
